This weekend has been so busy ... You can tell its fall even though we haven't been less than 90 DEGREES at all this week! In 2 days we've been to a skating birthday party, fall festival, craft show, church, chili cook off ... and now for SOME SUNDAY FOOTBALL! Just thought I would share with ya'll some great pics at the roller skating rink they are just too adorable!!! Seriously I felt like I was 15 again ... OH the days .... Yes we slow skated together :)
And how I wish I was camera ready ... Joshy had just fallen and busted his rump, neither of us could stop laughing, he only took 3 kids and me down with him LOL!

Fall Trees and Pen Pals

I don't know if any of you remember my post here in search of kids doing a letter exchange with Lu. After we wrote and recieved all of our letters Lu expressed interest in continuing to write this little girl, we will call her E.(Its me who forgets to send the letter out ... I promise Sarah after this post I am on my way to the Post office LOL) E and Lu now are writing back and forth *which is great for handwriting practice at this age* Last night Lu informed me that before I send out her letter to E she needed to make her a FALL tree. *That Lu has been reading way to much of my family fun magazines* So she actually made 2 trees one for me and one for E.
And she was so proud. It was so easy! I took a sponge cut in into a couple pieces and let her go to town with some paint. I did learn something new from my sister yesterday when I didn't have brown paint on hand ... if you mix yellow, red, blue, and green you come up with brown :) its not exact science but It does take a few tries or an extra couple squirts of this color or that color to get the brown you want, but now I will never have to buy brown paint :)
I just thought this was a cute photo Lu writing her letter and making funny faces!! LOL silly girl!

Kids In The Kitchen- Circus Peanut Pumkins

I don't know about you guys but I get alot of my ideas and or recipes frum Family Fun Magazine, thats my fav magazine on the PLANET! I needed something simple this week (What week do I do anything hard anyways) Keeping with my Halloween Theme this month I decided to Have Lu make these how much more simple can you get folks? She did do just about everything herself ... but the best part was we actually had *FUN* and *LAUGHTER* over the different shapes and concousions we were getting outta these circus peanuts.
This is simple: The original recipe called for gum drops, but this is what I used.
Circus peants, GREEN mike and ikes (we cut just the top pointy parts off and used those for our stem, you will see further in the post, and that is what we had on hand) and of course a toothpick. Can get any better than those few itemsFirst we rolled and pulled and shaped our circus peanut into a ball ....
Then take your tooth pick and poke a little hole at the top where your stem goes, then start making your wrinkle lines that pumkins have *with the toothpick*
We then cut the top of the mike n ike (notice my hand over hers, she was quite nervous of the candy rolling away) After that all you need to do is press the *stem* into the *pumkin*And voila little pumkins! Its just truly amazing the fun and laughter you can have over a couple circus peanuts! If you haven't done this I suggest trying it! It only cost me $1 for the peanuts, I had everything else on hand!

Muffin Tin Monday- All About Me

Today's Muffin Tin Monday theme is "all about me" the items I put in the tin were all non edible but are food items from the pantry (minus the paint) DON'T STOP READING YET! I know Muffin Tin Monday was intended to get kids excited about food, but I struggle on a weekly basis since Lu goes to school, its either snack or dinner and to plan a dinner around a theme can be quite tricky. I was trying the breakfast route for a while and things turned out cute, but if you read my blog you know my Lu is NOT and I repeat NOT a morning person so I try to wake her up late as possible! However with our "food items" we made Lu and she turned out cute! In our tin:
Top: Jumbo Shell, Lasgna noodle (in half), penne noodles, angel hair noodles
Middle: Paint yellow & red, bow tie noodles, a couple skittles, walnut and gummy bear (all for accessories see the last picture)
Bottom: Paint purple, blue, orange, pink
I just gave the tin to Lu and told her to do with what she pleases and make the noodles into "her" and so she set to work. (she asked me to glue the skittle eyes on which I hot glued) and she said she needed red lipstick bc I never let her wear any. LOL
She painted the Lasgna purple and made that her shirt, she used 2 rotinis for jeans and 2 for her arms. She used angel hair for her hair, a bow tie in her hair, and the gummy bear for her purse, I put it there thinking she'd carry a "bear" around bc she loves stuffed animals however she took an angel hair and stuck it onto the bear for its "purse straps" She also broke in half a mike and ike and used them for her shoes (pink ones at that) *the picture doesn't show her purse bc she added it last minute*
Doesn't it resemble her quite a bit?? I actually love it! So glad we did something out of the ordinary! And she still got her Muffin Tin Monday! She didn't say one word about not getting to eat a thing! She was too proud of her person to notice!!!
*What is quite funny is I didn't direct her at all on which body parts to use, and what I had in my mind was actually different but even my 6 yr old exceeding my expectations on what you could do with noodles she did such a great job!*

Simply Made Sunday- Marshmallow Ghost!

I know I am SUPER-DUPER late with my Simply Made Sunday post! I always say though its better late than never! Whats so funny about me though and the people that know me in "real life" that being late is HORRIBLE I hate to be late weather its to a function or "online" for something! However Lu has been away all weekend and so this truly was "last minute!" I am thinking I will try to do something Halloween related this month each time Lu and I do our special kitchen time! Tonight we made these O-SO-SIMPLE Ghosts!
All you need is 6 marshmallows, red skittles (or redhots), black sprinkles, 1/2 cup of white choc. chips (or vanillia coating), and a skewer/kabob stick. (this will make 2 ghosts)
I had the small fruit kabob sticks so we used those, and Lu put 3 on each stick.
Then coated it with the white chocolate. I don't have a picture of us putting on the eyes and mouth because we were racing against drying time, and melted chocolate+camera in hand+disater!
This was a fun after dinner snack ... And yes she did brush her teeth O-SO-EXTRA well!

Kids in The Kitchen- Muffins

I've never attempted to make "home made" muffins before, always just from a bag or box, however on my new cooking "ventures" and my wanting to do Muffin Tin Mondays with Lu I thought it was only right that I tried to make them the tried and ture way! And holy mess was I missing out! First of all, Lu did most of the work, but secondly they were so delish, better than any muffins I've had, and thats saying something since the BASE of them were Banana and if you read my blog you know I am not fond of bananas *really I think it's the texture, but I am not sure, I could handle them in this maybe because the flavor wasn't as STRONG! In any event we made them Monday and its been GREAT for breakfast this week, something new and different

instead of the same ole' cereal. For weeks I have been on a "snack kick" for after school and now I may move on from that *since I've found some great snack recipes through Kids in The Kitchen as well as magazines and blogs. Now I think I am gonna move to breakfast ideas in my house. I think Lu was excited for a "change" and now that the muffins are gone I have to find something to replace them :) so onto my new adventure I will go!! Got any ideas? *I would really rather make something that will last all week like muffins or homemade waffles frozen so that I dont have to cook so early every single morning*
We made Simple Banana Muffins and at the end we changed it up a bit for some variety, so heres the how to:
Lightly beat 1 egg, then pour in 1 cup of sugar and stir, then 1/3 cup of melted butter, and stir again!
In another bowl mash up 4 bananas *we used a potato masher* and doesn't this picture say it all! "Mom I've gotta use ALL my strength here, quick putting the pressure on me by snapping so many pictures"
Add the bananas to the first bowl *w/ sugar and egg* then add to the bowl 1 and 1/2 cups all purpose flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt. STIR WELL!
We divided the mixture into 3 ways.
Added nothing else to the first mixture, to the second mixture we added 2 handfuls of choc chips, and to the third mixture added finely chopped walnuts. All 3 were really tasty. My choice was the banana/walnut. Of course Lu's choice was banana/choc. And Joshy liked them all :)

heres the end product yummy huh?

Wordless Wednesday - Dixie

This is our new dog Dixie she is so sweet! Lu loves her dearly and they play so nicely together! I like her too she lays at my feet while I'm on the computer, follows me around the house when I am walking, and shes so loveable, at 50 lbs she thinks shes a lap dog LOL. She is 1 yr old and we took her from a loving family that could no longer take care of her due to family illness. I never knew I could like an animal this much! She's a great addition to our family!
